Halfway down Constitution Hill, behind the Town Hall.
We are looking
southwest with the Pier (twice as long before WW2, in Edwardian times the London paddle steamer would moor up to it) and the old Leisure Centre in the middle distance. Furthest distance is Landguard Fort at the mouth of the Orwell.
Historical info:"Landguard Fort in Felixstowe, Suffolk is the only fort in England to have repelled a full scale invasion attempt when Captain Darell and 500 men defeated the Dutch force led by Admiral de Ruyter in July 1667. The fort was originally built at the behest of Henry the Eighth and was in use by the army until 1956. In the 19th century many improvements were made to the fort including the building of a seven casemated battery facing out towards the Orwell. In 1901 a Right Battery was build with two six and one 10 inch guns and in the second world war a further two 6 inch batteries were added. The fort is now run by Landguard Fort Trust together with English Heritage - more information on their web site from this link.
